12mm Double Sided Tape

A little roll that earns its place at the sewing table! Part of the same CLD tape range as the 3mm size Chris has used for years, this 12mm tape is a practical choice for holding straps and bag components in position before sewing.

The 12mm width gives you a broader strip of adhesive for wider components, while the strong adhesive helps keep your pieces aligned without adding pins.

  • 12mm wide × 50m long — a useful, affordable roll for everyday bag making.
  • Easy to tear and peel backing — less fiddling when preparing your project.
  • Handy for holding double-folded straps as you fold, keeping the folds in place and positioning handles and straps for sewing.
  • For use with fabric, vinyl faux leather, leather, mesh, foam and paper.

Supplied as one 50m roll.

Keep a roll beside your sewing machine for those “I could use an extra hand” moments!

Description

CLD 12mm Double Sided Tape

Sometimes the fiddliest part of bag making is getting everything to stay where you want it before you stitch. CLD 12mm double sided tape gives you a 12mm adhesive strip for holding double-folded straps during folding, keeping layers aligned and positioning wider components before sewing.

This is part of the same CLD tape range as the 3mm size Chris has used for years. The 12mm width and 50m roll offer an affordable option for regular bag making.

Why You’ll Love It

  • 12mm width: A broader adhesive strip for wider straps, overlays and backing pieces.
  • Strong adhesive hold: Helps keep layers aligned while you prepare to sew.
  • Easy tear-and-peel backing: Makes applying a small piece straightforward.
  • No pin holes: Holds pieces in position without piercing your material, particularly useful with vinyl faux leather.
  • 50m roll: Plenty of tape for the small positioning jobs that come up throughout a project.

Useful for Bag Making

  • Holding double-folded straps as you fold the edges and bring the layers together.
  • Keeping strap folds in place while preparing to topstitch.
  • Positioning handles and straps on bag panels before sewing them securely.
  • Holding wider overlays and backing pieces in place during assembly.
  • Other positioning jobs where a broader adhesive strip suits the component better than narrow tape.

Use with fabric, vinyl faux leather, leather, mesh, foam and paper. Adhesion can vary with the material and its surface, so try a small piece on an offcut before starting.

How to Use

  1. Check the position of your pieces and the stitching line before applying the tape.
  2. Apply the required length to one surface and press it down.
  3. Peel away the backing paper, align the second piece and press the layers together.
  4. Secure your project using the stitching or attachment method specified by your pattern.

Where your project allows, position the tape beside the stitching line to minimise needle contact with the adhesive. Test your setup on scraps first. The tape helps with positioning; it does not replace the final stitching or hardware attachment.

Helpful Tip from Chris

When making double-folded straps, use the tape to help hold the folds as you work. Check that the folded edges and layers line up before pressing firmly together, and leave room for your planned stitching.

Choose the Width for Your Project

Choose our 3mm × 20m tape for narrow areas, 6mm × 50m tape for a middle width or 12mm × 50m tape for broader contact. Match the width to the component and your stitching placement.
