Double Cap Rivets are a simple and versatile way to secure, reinforce or decorate areas of your bag making projects.
These Gold Double Cap Rivets feature a 9mm cap diameter and 8mm post length, with a rounded cap on both sides for a finished appearance from the front and back of your project.
They are ideal for straps, handles, hardware tabs, connectors and other areas where you would like a functional fastener, decorative metal detail or both.

Choosing the Right Post Length
Your rivet post needs to extend far enough through all of the materials being joined for the second cap to attach securely. If the post is too short, there may not be enough length available for the cap to connect correctly. If the post is excessively long for the project thickness, the rivet may be more difficult to set neatly.
Because materials such as webbing, vinyl faux leather, interfacing and stabilisers can vary in thickness, always test your rivet on an offcut made from the same materials and number of layers before setting it into your finished project.

Preparing the Rivet Hole
For most bag making materials, a 2mm hole is the perfect size to start with when installing Double Cap Rivets.
The hole should be sized to suit the rivet post rather than the 9mm cap diameter. For many common bag making materials, including webbing, vinyl faux leather and layered fabrics, a 2mm hole provides a great starting point. Always test on an offcut first.

When using Double Cap Rivets around straps, handles and hardware attachment points, don’t rely on the rivet alone to provide all of the strength. Make sure the surrounding area is suitably reinforced, particularly where hardware will be subjected to repeated pulling or carrying weight.
For the neatest result, prepare a test piece using the same material layers, hole size and rivet post length before setting the rivet into your finished project.
