Description
Odif OdiCoat Fabric Waterproofing Gel 250ml
Love a fabric print but wish it had a more practical, wipeable finish? Odif OdiCoat lets you transform suitable fabric by adding a transparent protective coating while still allowing the finished material to be cut and sewn once completely dry.
The number of coats you apply changes the finished result, giving you the flexibility to create anything from a water repellent fabric through to a waterproof waxed canvas style finish.
For bag makers, this opens up so many possibilities. Use OdiCoat to protect your favourite quilting cotton, create wipeable bag linings, make coated zipper pouches and cosmetic bags, or give selected fabric panels additional protection for everyday use.
Why Bag Makers Love OdiCoat
- Transforms suitable fabric into a more practical, protected material.
- Choose from water repellent, coated or waterproof finishes depending on the number of coats applied.
- Transparent when dry so your fabric design remains visible.
- Creates a flexible coated finish that can be cut and sewn once completely dry.
- Perfect for creating wipeable bag linings and coated fabric panels.
- Lets you use favourite fabric prints rather than being limited to ready-made coated fabrics.
- Water based, acid free and solvent free.
Choose Your Finish – 1, 2 or 3 Coats
The number of OdiCoat layers you apply changes the protection and appearance of your finished fabric.
- 1 Coat: Protects the fabric and creates a water repellent finish.
- 2 Coats: Creates a coated finish with a coated canvas style appearance.
- 3 Coats: Waterproofs the fabric and creates a waxed canvas style appearance.
This makes it easy to adjust the finish depending on your project rather than treating every fabric in exactly the same way.

- Apply a thin, even coat of OdiCoat using the supplied applicator card or a flat brush.
- Allow the coating to dry for approximately 20 minutes.
- Place baking or parchment paper over the coated fabric and iron using a satin setting without steam.
- If applying additional coats, repeat the application, drying and ironing process for each layer.
- Allow the finished coated fabric to dry completely. Full drying is reached after approximately 24 hours.
Once completely dry, the treated fabric can be cut and sewn for your project.

Helpful Tip from Chris
Whenever you’re trying OdiCoat on a new fabric, I recommend coating a small scrap first using the same number of coats you plan to use on your finished project. This lets you see and feel exactly how the fabric changes before committing to your project pieces.
The number of coats makes a real difference, so think about what you want the finished fabric to do. One coat may be all you need when you simply want additional protection and water repellency, while three coats are designed to create the waterproof waxed canvas style finish.
Allow the coating to dry completely before cutting and sewing. OdiCoat is not recommended for thick velvet, suede or embossed fabrics, so always check suitability before coating an important project piece.
Complete Your Bag Making Project
Once you’ve created your own coated fabric, pair it with your favourite Zipper Tape, Zipper Pulls, Sewing Thread and Sewing Machine Needles to turn it into your next bag, pouch or creative sewing project.
