How to Use a Plastic Quick Side Release Buckle
This is a single-adjust buckle made from two pieces: a male end with flexible prongs and two webbing slots, and a female end with a socket and one webbing slot.
Thread the Adjustable Male End
- Hold the male buckle piece with its top surface facing upwards.
- Feed the raw end of your 25mm webbing up from underneath through the inner slot closest to the prongs.
- Bring the webbing over the textured centre bar, keeping it flat and untwisted.
- Feed the webbing down through the outer slot furthest from the prongs.
- Pull the main strap to check that the webbing grips securely against the centre bar. Pull the loose tail to adjust the strap length.
Secure the Fixed Female End
- Thread the other end of the 25mm webbing through the single slot in the female buckle piece.
- Fold the webbing back onto itself, following the seam allowance or tail length recommended by your pattern.
- Finish the raw edge using a method suitable for your chosen webbing, then stitch the folded end securely. Use the reinforced stitching method recommended by your pattern for the intended project.
To close the buckle, push the male end straight into the female socket until it clicks. To open it, squeeze both exposed side prongs at the same time and gently pull the two pieces apart.
Before using the finished project, check that the webbing sits flat, the adjustable side holds firmly under tension and the buckle opens and closes smoothly.
