How to Install Rhinestone Grommets
- Mark the position of the grommet on your project.
- Use the 15mm Hole Cutting Die Set to cut the correctly sized opening for the 14mm barrel.
- Insert the barrel section through the opening from the back of the material.
- Position the rhinestone front over the barrel on the outside of your project.
- Place both pieces into the matching setting dies, ensuring the rhinestone front is sitting correctly in the shaped die.
- Apply firm, even pressure with the hand press to secure the two pieces together.
- Check that the grommet is firmly attached before continuing with your project.
The matching 14mm Rhinestone Grommet Setting Die is available separately and is designed to protect the rhinestone front while the grommet is being installed.
Important: The 15mm Hole Cutting Die Set is the correct cutter for these 14mm grommets. The 12mm hole cutting die creates an opening that is too small.
Helpful Tip from Chris
Although these grommets are described as 14mm, the 15mm Hole Cutting Die Set is the correct die for preparing the opening. It is suitable for both CLD 14mm and 15mm grommets. The 12mm hole cutting die is too small for this hardware.
Always test the grommet on an offcut made from the same materials and number of layers as your finished project. This allows you to check the hole size, material thickness and press pressure before installing the grommet on your completed bag piece.
When using thinner fabric, adding interfacing or a small reinforcement piece behind the grommet area can provide extra support and help the hardware sit securely.
