Description
Sew Easy Easy Quarter Ruler 8″ x 1″
The Easy Quarter ruler helps you add and trim a consistent ¼″ seam allowance along straight edges. Its narrow 8″ x 1″ shape is especially handy for foundation paper piecing, small quilting blocks and pattern pieces where a larger ruler gets in the way.
The two edges do different jobs: a tapered edge helps fold back a paper foundation, while a raised lip underneath helps line the ruler up with that fold for trimming. Metric and imperial markings make it useful for measuring and marking straight lines too.
How to Use the Easy Quarter Ruler
- Fold: Use the tapered edge as a guide to fold the foundation paper back along the seam line.
- Align: Turn the ruler over and place its raised lip against the folded edge.
- Trim: On a cutting mat, use a rotary cutter along the ruler to trim the excess fabric, leaving a ¼″ allowance.
Folding the paper out of the blade’s path also helps reduce the chance of nicking a reusable template. The illustrated steps are shown in the gallery, and instructions are printed on the back of the packaging.
A Useful Size for Quilting and Bag Making
Use the ruler for straight ¼″ seam allowances in foundation piecing or for smaller sewing components where you want to measure and mark with control. If you’re following a bag pattern, check its specified seam allowance before cutting: use the ¼″ guide only where the pattern calls for it.
