Description
T Shaped Nylon Hammer Mallet
Preparing holes, fitting hardware and managing bulky seams are all part of making bags. The T Shaped Nylon Hammer Mallet brings these everyday jobs together in one useful tool, with a substantial weighted head and a firm nylon striking surface.
Its compact T shaped design is easy to store beside your sewing machine or in a tool organiser, ready when you need to prepare a strap, install a closure or tap down a seam before sewing.
Why Bag Makers Love It
- Useful weight behind each tap: the weighted head helps deliver a solid strike without needing a large workshop hammer.
- Firm nylon striking surface: a practical alternative to a steel hammer for suitable punches and hand setting tools.
- Helps manage seam bulk: gently tap thick seam intersections and folded areas before topstitching.
- Compact size: approximately 19cm overall, so it fits neatly into your sewing setup.
Perfect For
- Using suitable hand hole punches to prepare holes for bag hardware.
- Working with a poly punching plate beneath your material.
- Using compatible hand setters for rivets, press snaps and other fittings.
- Gently flattening bulky seams, folded strap ends and corners in bags, wallets and pouches.
- Seating already folded prongs on the backs of magnetic snaps, locks and metal labels against their washers.
Using It with Hole Punches and Hardware
Place your material on a poly punching plate over a firm, stable work surface. Position a suitable hand punch upright and use controlled strikes on the punch’s striking end. Match the hole size to your hardware, and follow the punch or setting tool’s instructions.
For hand setting, use the correct setter and supporting base for the fitting. The mallet supplies the force; the matching tool shapes and seats the hardware. Avoid striking decorative hardware faces directly.
Flattening Bulky Seams
Gentle tapping can help settle layers at seam intersections, strap folds and corners, making those areas easier to manage when sewing. This can be useful with vinyl faux leather and suitable fabrics, including canvas.
Test on a matching offcut first, support the work on a firm surface and start with light taps. A nylon head can still leave an impression if too much force is used. Keep clear of nearby hardware and avoid flattening padding where you want to retain its loft.

Helpful Tip from Chris
When fitting hardware with folding prongs, fold the prongs over the washer first, then use gentle, controlled taps to help them sit flatter. Support the fitting underneath and protect its decorative face while you work.
