Description
Industrial Left Zipper Presser Foot
Sometimes the stitching you need is right beside something your regular presser foot keeps bumping into. Zipper teeth, a piping cord or a raised edge can leave too much space between the needle and the detail you want to sew.
The Left Zipper Presser Foot P36LN has a narrow, one-sided sole that lets you bring the needle closer while the foot supports the material alongside it. It is a useful option for controlled straight stitching on bags, wallets, pouches and other sewing projects.
Installing and Topstitching Zippers
Use this foot when attaching zippers to pocket openings, zipper panels and pouch edges. The narrow sole can sit beside the teeth rather than riding over them, helping you stitch where a wider foot gets in the way.
It is also handy for topstitching the fabric beside a fitted zipper. Leave enough clearance for the zipper pull to move freely: closer stitching is useful, but stitching too close can catch the fabric in the zipper.
To help hold your layers in position, you can use narrow double sided tape away from the stitching line, or sewing clips, removing each clip before it reaches the foot.
Making and Attaching Piping
Piping adds definition around bag panels, pockets and other edges. A zipper foot can stitch alongside the raised cord while its sole rests on the flat seam allowance.
- Make your own piping: wrap suitable bias-cut fabric around piping cord and stitch beside the cord to hold the covering in place.
- Attach piping: baste it to your panel, then sew the adjoining panel in place with the stitching close to the cord.
- Work around shaped panels: sew slowly and reposition the project as needed to follow the edge accurately.
This foot stitches beside the cord; it does not have the fitted underside groove of a dedicated piping foot. Test your cord size and material layers first to check the foot has suitable clearance and support.
Choosing Left or Right
This listing is for the left version, marked P36LN. Left and right zipper feet are mirror-image tools, giving you access from opposite sides of a zipper or raised detail. Choose the version that allows the sole to rest on the flat material while the needle stitches beside the zipper teeth or piping cord.
Having both versions available can save you turning a bulky bag or rearranging a project when you need to approach the detail from the other side. Please use the product photographs and model marking to identify the version you need.
Machine Compatibility and Fitting
This foot uses the same high shank, screw-on fitting as our other industrial sewing machine presser feet. It fits the Juki TL2010Q and Brother PQ1500SL, two popular straight stitch machines used by bag makers.
It is also suitable for many industrial single-needle straight stitch machines and semi industrial models from Brother, Juki, Jack and Singer that accept this fitting. Compatibility depends on the individual model and presser foot system, rather than the brand name alone.
Check the presser foot system for your exact machine before purchasing. Industrial and semi industrial machines do not all use interchangeable feet. A standard low shank snap-on system or a specialised walking-foot system requires a different fitting.
Switch off the machine before changing feet. After fitting, turn the handwheel through a full stitch by hand to check the needle clears the foot before sewing. Use a straight stitch and test on scraps of your project materials.
For easier foot changes, our Quick Change Presser Foot Screw may be useful with compatible machines; it is sold separately.

A Helpful Sewing Tip
If a zipper pull is in your way, stop with the needle down, raise the presser foot and move the pull past the stitching area. Lower the foot before continuing. This can help you keep a straighter stitching line instead of steering around the pull.
